Athetoid cerebral palsy
Athetoid cerebral palsy is a type of cp in which the movement of muscles disorder occurs. In athetoid cerebral palsy the child may not be able to move his muscles properly and not be able to stand in erect position properly. In this CP the child’s whole body is affected. Generally the athetoid cerebral palsy child is more intelligent than other non CP children or normal children, if the disorder of CP is leave. These children have problem in holding small things like pen, pencil etc. they are not be able to scratch their nose. Athetoid cerebral palsy children have very difficulty in concentration on muscles and or coordinate them, so that the desired job is properly performed. Generally their face expressions are very ugly when they perform some job. The typical sign of athetoid cerebral palsy is drooling.
The feet of athetoid cerebral palsy patient are not being able to hold the weight of their body, for balancing their body they bend their knee inwards so that they meet to each other. Athetoid cerebral palsy children have really very problem in walking, sitting and standing, they are not be able to gain their center of gravity. There is a part of brain known as basal ganglia which is responsible to maintain the body balance and automate body movement. In athetoid cerebral palsy these basal ganglia are damaged, so the patients no more able to control body movements and other activities. There is a fluctuation in their muscle tone, this is some times low and some times high or mix up of these two. Athetoid cerebral palsy is also known as dyskinetic cerebral palsy.
One can easily identify athetoid CP, in this disorder the stress level of patient is high when they awaken and disappear when they are at sleep. The family member of athetoid cerebral palsy child need to cope with the child stress when he/she will unable to feel, touch or learn as other normal children do. Parents must encourage the athetoid cerebral palsy child for small body movements. In this type of cerebral palsy the speech therapy, physical therapy, martial arts and yoga are really helpful in improving patient muscle tone and their coordination.
